The Village of East Dundee (population est. 3,204) is seeking qualified applicants for a Part-Time Officer.  The starting hourly salary is $27.51 DOQ.  The weekly work schedule will be negotiable. 

About East Dundee and Police Department

The Village of East Dundee, a home rule community as defined by the Illinois Constitution, is located approximately 35 miles west of the City of Chicago, primarily in Kane County with a small portion in Cook County. East Dundee encompasses approximately 3.1 square miles.  The Fox River is the western border of the Village, and the Fox River Bike Trail runs through the Village’s historic downtown district.  Residents and visitors of East Dundee can enjoy an array of dining, retail, social and outdoor activities, including Santa’s Village Azoosment & Water Park.  A picturesque historic downtown, with the former train depot (now a visitor center) in the heart of the district is home to many popular year-round special events hosted by the Village and outside organizations. 

The East Dundee Police Department is an ILEAP Accredited Police Department, currently staffed by 13 full-time sworn police officers, including a Chief of Police, Deputy Chief of Police, and four Sergeants.  Also, there are six part-time sworn police officers, one part-time records clerk, and one full-time records clerk.  Two additional full-time officers are budgeted for the coming year.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be an Illinois certified police officer and eligible for waiver from ILETSB. No exceptions.
  • Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and midnight shift.
  • Expected to be available for large village special events.
  • Specialized skills and/or ability to speak a second language is desired.
  • Must successfully pass the interview, medical, psychological and polygraph exams.
  • Graduation from high school, or GED equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with the general public.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Ability to communicate in oral and written form.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
